The camp provides a unique opportunity for middle schoolers to explore diverse engineering disciplines and cutting-edge technology through hands-on projects and real-world problem-solving at a university setting.
The Educational Technology Lab (ETL) Summer Camp at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) offers middle school students a hands-on, project-based learning experience focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Participants engage with various computer and technology equipment, including drones, race cars, 3D printing, Double Robotics, Ozobot, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi. The curriculum also incorporates science projects in natural science, chemistry, physics, computer science, and engineering. Through activities like programming, simulations, LEGO Robotics, webpage creation, and animation & multimedia creation, students develop critical 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. The camp aims to nurture young talent and provide an environment for exploring interests in STEM fields that may not be covered in traditional schooling.
Each day, campers meet at 10 AM in the Education Technology Lab, College of Education, UIC, and engage in hands-on activities and lessons until 4 PM.
This camp is best for inquisitive and curious middle school students (ages 8-13) who want to try new things, meet new people, and use their heads and hands to solve problems in STEM fields.
