The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) College of Engineering Summer Camp offers middle and high school students an immersive, hands-on exploration of various engineering disciplines. Participants engage in over 15 unique projects, rotating daily through different engineering labs such as Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering. Activities include writing computer code, robotics, biomechanics, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, designing and testing prototypes, and working with renewable energy. Students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and engineering problem-solving skills, aligned with ABET-accredited college engineering programs. The camp also introduces students to potential engineering careers in cutting-edge fields like nanotechnology, autonomous vehicles, and organ transplantation. Rising 10th-12th graders receive additional college preparation tips and campus/lab tours, providing a glimpse into college life and future academic and professional journeys.
